Overview

The Obstetrical Chain, also known as a calving chain, is a veterinary instrument used to apply controlled traction to a calf during a difficult birth. The chain is looped around the calf's legs above the fetlock, then a handle is attached so the vet or farmer can pull in time with the cow's contractions, helping deliver the calf safely.
